The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you!! A season of change is upon us once again. My hope this time every year is that the leaves will change at the right time with brilliant colors and that they will remain on the trees for a long period of time so that I can enjoy that beauty. The Lord does magnificent work! However, I think that often we let that work go unnoticed. In addition to the unnoticed work of the Lord in nature, I think we often can overlook the work of the Lord in the lives of people.
Recently I have been spending some time reflecting on the work of the Lord in my life and in the lives of others. Growing up in the church and then eventually deciding that the Lord was calling me to a leadership level within the church, I have become quite familiar with the stories of the Bible and the magnificence of the Lord’s handiwork. However, sometimes familiarity breeds apathy. I would say that until recently, I had once again become apathetic to the awesome work of the Lord. I had started to take that work for granted you might say. Fortunately for me, the Spirit nudged me to notice that work once again.
When I examine the way that the Lord has worked in my life, I am truly amazed how the Lord can utilize a broken creature such as I am. I, like maybe some of you, am a person that continuously struggles with my sinful nature. Many times I doubt how the Lord could ever utilize me in a positive way for the Kingdom. But that seems to be one of the many amazing things about our God….out of brokenness and unlikeliness, the Lord does some awesome work. As I reflect on different stories of individuals in Scripture, I find that over and over the Lord has chosen unlikely individuals to do some amazing work for God’s master plan. Think about Moses, David the shepherd boy, Matthew the tax collector, Saul the persecutor. It appears that the Lord can, and does, choose sinners and the unnoticed to accomplish great things.
I wonder if any of you have ever doubted that the Lord could utilize you in some great plan. Do any of you find yourself struggling with all the reasons you feel you are not the right quality for the Lord’s work? Can any of you identify your struggles with sin and view that as a reason you are unqualified to do the Lord’s work? If you can relate to any of this let me assure you that the work the Lord can do in us and through us is simply amazing. Just like the beauty we experience in creation during this changing season, the Lord continues to create beauty with us.
