Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Sometimes in our lives we feel like we are on an amusement park ride that has gone wildly out of control. The uncertainties of life can become overwhelming for us. We may feel that the more we seek answers, the more questions seem to prevail. This uncertainty and this struggle with being out of control is what I’d like to address this month.
One of the greatest struggles for us as humans is to come to the place when we finally admit that we are not in charge!!!!! You see as human beings, we consider ourselves superior to all of Gods creation. After all, doesn’t Genesis say that we are in charge? But as we read the rest of Scripture, we find out that what God intends is that we are the stewards of creation. The reality is that the Creator, the Almighty God, is the one who is ultimately in charge. We also see in Scripture the limitations of our human abilities. We struggle to manage ourselves as individuals and our relationships. So it is actually a blessing that the Lord is in charge. If you want a great illustration of this, watch the movie, Bruce Almighty.
Life does not come with a road map. For all planning, all dreaming, all the preparation we do, life is something to be lived. Only the Lord knows where the path goes. The planning, dreaming and preparation for human events are necessary and valuable but have their limitations. The reality that we have to face however is that only the Lord sees the Master Plan. When those blows of life hit us, we need to find our refuge and certainty in God. We need to trust what Paul told the Romans, “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purposes.” (Romans 8:28) As the words of a song state, “When we can’t see his plan, trust his heart.”
